Dating back to the 11th century, Lancaster Castle is one of the areas top attractions. Not only is it a spectacular building that still operates in parts as a prison, but it has a fascinating to history to share with all its visitors. Take an informative guided tour to learn about the Lancashire Witches that were tried and condemned here, and see a variety of terrifying torture instruments that are still kept at the castle.
Williamson Park is packed with picturesque plants, trees and scrubs; set out over many acres that are just waiting to be explored. Theres also a butterfly house set in a delightful Edwardian Palm House and a Mini-Beast Centre with spiders and snakes, providing something for everyone.
As a historic city Lancaster has its fair share museums outlining the areas great history. Choose from the City Museum with its array of local history exhibits, or visit the Cottage Museum that has been restored to look exactly as it would have done back in 1820. Or perhaps the Maritime Museum is more your thing.
The magnificent Lancaster Priory was originally founded back in 1094. The interior is every bit as interesting as the exterior, boasting intricate tapestries and medieval choir stalls. Likewise the neo-gothic Lancaster Cathedral also has some impressive sights to show, including some stunning stained glass windows.
Another great place thats worth tracking down is the Lancaster Leisure Park, with its huge antiques centre and a range of factory shops at great prices. Whilst kids can enjoy a varied selection of childrens rides.
